Sanju Samson scored 89 runs in the IND vs ENG semi-final 2 at Wankhede Stadium.

Sanju Samson stunned everyone with his brilliant batting show in the T20 World Cup 2026 Semi-Final 2 match between India and England. The IND vs ENG clash took place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5.

After opting to field first, England dismissed Abhishek Sharma early in the second over. However, they looked clueless against Samson as he hammered the opposition bowlers right from the start, giving a quickfire start to his side.

With their aggressive batting style, Samson and Ishan Kishan etched a stand of 97 runs for the second wicket, with the latter getting out for 39 runs in the 10th over. With the help of these two players, the team crossed the 100-run mark within nine overs.

Before losing his wicket in the 14th over, Samson added 89 runs off 42 deliveries with eight boundaries and seven sixes at a strike rate of 211.90. He set the platform for India‘s mammoth total of 253/7.

By smashing seven sixes in the semi-final against England, Sanju Samson has reached 16 sixes in the T20 World Cup 2026. He has broken Rohit Sharma’s record for most sixes by an Indian batter in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. In the previous edition in 2024, Sharma slammed 15 sixes.

Moreover, Samson also equalled Virat Kohli’s record for the highest score by an Indian player in a knockout game of the T20 World Cup. In the 2016 edition, Kohli also scored an unbeaten 89 runs in the semi-final against the West Indies at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Samson has scored 232 runs in four games in the tournament at a stunning average of 77.33. At a strike rate of 201.53, the wicket-keeper batter has hit 2 half-centuries. Meanwhile, India defeated England to book a berth in the T20 World Cup 2026 final, where they will clash with New Zealand.
