New Zealand need 107 runs on day 5 to win the 1st IND vs NZ test in Bengaluru.
The first test match of the three-match series between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru has seen dramatic twists and turns till now.
After Day 1 of the test was called off due to rain, play finally began on Day 2, with Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opting to bat first.
However, Sharma’s decision backfired, as India were all out for their third-lowest total (46) in test cricket. New Zealand speedster Matt Henry picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
In reply, New Zealand plundered 402 runs after Rachin Ravindra played a magnificent knock of 134 off 157 balls.
In the second innings of India, senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma notched up brilliant half-centuries on day 3 before Sarfaraz Khan completed his maiden ton and Rishabh Pant scored 99 on day 4.
India, however, collapsed after New Zealand took the second new ball. Sarfaraz was dismissed for 150, and Pant’s dismissal on 99 opened the floodgates for New Zealand. India went from 408-4 to 462-10.
The hosts then set a target of 107 runs for New Zealand. Jasprit Bumrah could bowl only four balls in the first over of New Zealand’s chase before the umpires called off play due to bad light.
