New Zealand won the second IND vs NZ test in Pune by 113 runs.

After securing victory in the 1st IND vs NZ test in Bengaluru by eight wickets, New Zealand downed India by 113 runs in the second test in Pune. With this, the Black Caps took a 2-0 unassailable lead in the three-match IND vs NZ test series.

This result in Pune meant New Zealand recorded their maiden test series win in India. It also meant that India have suffered a home test series loss after 12 years, their last one coming in 2012 at the hands of England. While in 2012, it was veteran spinners Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar who thumped India, this time, the Asian giants were rocked by the likes of Mitchell Santner, Ajaz Patel and Glenn Phillips.

In the first test, New Zealand emerged victorious in seam-friendly, home-like conditions in Bengaluru. But in the second, they hammered India on a proper spin-friendly, dry surface in Pune.

This ends India’s 18-series winning streak at home. It is a huge jolt to Rohit Sharma’s team with regard to the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final as they will tour Australia for a five-test series after the Mumbai test against the Kiwis.

In Pune, Tom Latham, the New Zealand captain, won a crucial toss and elected to bat first. New Zealand posted 259 in their first innings as Washington Sundar took seven wickets for India. That total of the Kiwis proved to be more than enough as India were bowled out for only 156 with Santner taking a seven-wicket haul.

Through Latham’s 86, New Zealand scored 255 in their second innings to set India a target of 359 runs. While India did get off to a flying start in their chase with Jaiswal’s blazing 77 (650, a collapse felt inevitable as Santner once again ran through them with a six-wicket haul. India were bowled out for 245 and conceded a 113-run loss.

India’s home fortress has been breached. This is their only fourth test series loss at home in the 21st century.

Fans have been left stunned as India lost on a spin-favouring track in the 2nd IND vs NZ test in Pune:
