Kane Williamson has a mediocre average of 33 in tests in India.

After registering a historic test match win in Bengaluru, the New Zealand cricket team will face the Indian cricket team in Pune for the second test match of the three-match series.

In Bengaluru, the Black Caps recorded their third test match victory on Indian soil, and their first in 36 years, to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, Matt Henry and William O’Rourke were the stars for the visitors at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

While India did have a few positives in their batting department, they are left with plenty of questions and challenges heading into the second test at the MCA Stadium in Pune, scheduled to get underway on Thursday.

India will be aiming to bounce back and level the series in Pune, and on the other hand, New Zealand are one victory away from sealing their maiden test series win in India. They will, however, continue to remain without their best batsman.

Will Kane Williamson play in 2nd test vs India in Pune?

Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the second test against India, which will be played in Pune, as he continues his recovery from a groin injury.

Williamson sustained a groin strain last month while on the tour of Sri Lanka. Since then he has been in rehabilitation in New Zealand and didn’t travel with the squad to India. He missed the Bengaluru test and will miss the Pune game as well.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead is hoping Kane Williamson will be fit in time for the third test in Mumbai, which will be played from November 1.

Stead said, “We’re monitoring Kane and he’s tracking in the right direction, but isn’t yet 100% fit. We’re hopeful to see further improvement over the coming days and have him available for the third Test. We’ll give him as much time as possible to get himself ready, but certainly continue to take a cautious approach.”
