The IND vs NZ 1st T20I took place at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on January 21.

Indian Cricket Team crushed New Zealand Cricket Team in the first T20I on Wednesday (January 21) to start the campaign on a winning note. The Suryakumar Yadav & Co. defeated New Zealand by 48 runs in the clash, which took place at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.

After winning the toss, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner opted to bowl first. However, his decision turned out to be a horrible move as India piled up a mammoth total of 238/7. Opener Abhishek Sharma hammered Kiwi bowlers all over the park, providing a brilliant start to the batting.

While Sanju Samson (10) and Ishan Kishan (8) got out cheaply at the start, Sharma went on to score quickfire 84 runs off 35 deliveries. Suryakumar Yadav (32) and Hardik Pandya (25) added crucial runs in the middle, taking the scoreboard to 160-plus in the 14th over. With his blistering 44 runs off 20 deliveries, Rinku Singh did a wonderful job in the end.

Notably, India registered their highest-ever T20I total against the Black Caps and third-highest overall. In the chase, New Zealand lost opener Devon Conway for a duck and one down Rachin Ravindra for one run. Glenn Phillips (78) and Mark Chapman (39) kept the scoreboard running in the middle overs, touching the run-rate of almost 10+ till the 13th over.

However, once they lost their wickets, New Zealand lost the momentum in the chase. The visitors were helpless against the high required rate in the death overs and eventually ended with 190/7 on the board. For India, Varun Chakaravarthy and Shivam Dube picked two wickets each. Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya got one scalp each.
