Virat Kohli was awarded Player of the Match in the IND vs NZ 1st ODI.

Indian Cricket Team and New Zealand Cricket Team squared off in the first ODI of the ongoing series on Sunday, January 11. Virat Kohli started the year with a bang, winning the Player of the Match award for his magical half-century.

Kohli, who rocked with his performances for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26 recently, scored 93 runs off 91 deliveries in the clash. His innings was laced with eight boundaries and one six. Chasing 301 runs, he played a pivotal role in India’s victory by four wickets.

With his stunning batting show against the BlackCaps, the right-handed batsman has scripted history. The former Indian captain became only the third batter to reach the mark of 28,000 runs in international cricket. The 37-year-old has joined the likes of Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Sangakkara for the feat.

While Tendulkar piled up 34,357 runs in 664 matches in international cricket, Sangakkara smacked 28,016 runs in 594 games. Kohli now has 28068 runs in 557 matches. Moreover, Kohli broke multiple batting records in his first international game of 2026.
