Sunil Gavaskar interrupted Karthik when the latter mentioned the test series in Australia during the IND vs NZ Pune test.

While the Indian cricket team players were looking to keep the IND vs NZ Pune test alive, Sunil Gavaskar fumed at Dinesh Karthik in the commentary box over the mention of India’s next test series, which will be in Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT).

India are currently hosting New Zealand for a three-match test series. Having lost the first test in Bengaluru and having fallen way behind in the second test in Pune as well, the Asian Giants are on the verge of losing their first home test series since 2013, and what would be New Zealand’s maiden test series victory in India.

Amid this, Gavaskar expressed irritation at the mention of the five-match test series in Australia, which will start on November 22.

Focus should be only on what’s happening at the moment: Sunil Gavaskar

During day 2 of the Pune test, Karthik noted that there is a “big” series against Australia lined up for Rohit Sharma’s team. He was quickly interrupted by Gavaskar.

Just as Karthik said, “There is a big series coming up against Australia as well…” he was cut off by Gavaskar, who said, “Don’t talk about Australia now. That is a mistake that a lot of people often make. You’ve got to worry about what’s happening now. Your focus should be only on what’s happening at the moment. Australia will take care of itself. When you go there, you will find the methods to beat Australia. You’ve done that over the last couple of trips there. You found a way.”

Sunil Gavaskar responds to ex-Aussie players’ comments on Team India

Another thing that has irked Gavaskar is the regular churning out opinions of former Australian players about the selection of Team India for the tour Down Under.

Gavaskar had a go at them also, commenting, “It’s not the players. The players are focussed on the game. It’s the circle around which is the media and everybody else which is talking about Australia. There is so much of coverage about what is going to happen in Australia. The Australian players are all the time talking about the Indian team, what should be the team and all that. Pick him, pick that player. No body is asking us about the Australian team. All the former Australian players are telling us pick this guy, that guy. Ask us too who should be in the Australian team.”

Meanwhile, New Zealand ended day 2 in Pune in a commanding position with a lead of 301 runs in their second innings and with five wickets still in hand.
