Karun Nair was overlooked for the test series against South Africa.
The second test between Indian Cricket Team and South Africa Cricket Team is underway at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Following India’s batting blunder in the encounter in the first innings, Karun Nair shared a cryptic post on micro-blogging site X (formerly Twitter).
India, led by Rishabh Pant in Shubman Gill’s absence in the Guwahati test, have crumbled against Proteas bowlers in the first innings. They lost seven wickets in a flash as South Africa took the command of the game. Moreover, they are inching towards a follow-on as the Proteas piled up a mammoth total of 489 runs in the first innings.
Notably, captain Gill was ruled out of the encounter due to a neck injury. In his absence, Sai Sudharsan was picked in the XI and batted at number three, getting out for just 15 runs. When Sudharsan made his test debut in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 earlier in July, Nair made his comeback to test cricket after eight years during the series.
However, the right-handed batter failed to make a mark in the series, hitting just one half-century across eight innings. Later, he was overlooked for the home test series against the West Indies as well as the ongoing test series against South Africa.

In the Guwahati test, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed a half-century (58) to provide a decent start to batting. However, other key batters failed to score big, losing their wickets like a house of cards. Meanwhile, India trail 1-0 in the two-match test series. Earlier, the Temba Bavuma & Co. outplayed the hosts by 30 runs in the opening game.
