The first test between Indian Cricket Team and South Africa Cricket Team at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, concluded within three days on Sunday, November 15. The visitors South Africa won the encounter by 30 runs, handing a shocking defeat to the hosts.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat first in the low-scoring clash, where both teams failed to cross even 200-run mark across four innings. Jasprit Bumrah clinched a fifer to bundle the Proteas for 159 runs in the first innings. Later, India piled up 189 runs, earning a lead of 30 runs.
With a four-wicket haul by Ravindra Jadeja, India bowled out the Proteas for 153 runs in the second innings, where Temba Bavuma (55*) scored the only half-century of the entire game. While India were expected to chase a 124-run target with ease, they suffered a humiliating batting collapse, getting bowled out for just 93 runs. South Africa spinner Simon Harmer led the team’s bowling attack, clinching four-wicket hauls in both innings.
