Ravi Ashwin heaped praise on South African all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy.
Former Indian spinner Ravi Ashwin heaped rich praise on Senuran Muthusamy for his impressive batting show in the ongoing second test between Indian Cricket Team and South Africa Cricket Team at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Ashwin hailed Muthusamy’s defensive techniques against Indian spinners on day two of the match.
The second test commenced on November 22 (Saturday), with Proteas captain Temba Bavuma winning the toss and opting to bat first. In the absence of injured Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant is captaining India in the clash. On day 1, Indian spinners did a decent job, restricting South Africa to 247/6 at the stumps, with none of the batters managing to score a fifty.
On day 2 of the clash on Sunday, November 23, Muthusamy rescued South Africa’s innings with his half-century in the first session. He overpowered Indian spinners with his batting tactics, driving the team towards a big total. The batting all-rounder etched crucial stands with Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen and then went on to slam his maiden test century, putting India under massive pressure.

Watching Senuran’s batting skills in the clash, Ashwin heaped praise on the Proteas all-rounder on X (formerly Twitter).
Hailing Senuran’s defensive techniques against India, he wrote,: “SA have knocked off 5 sessions from this test now. India will have to do the heavy lifting to push for a win, also keeping in mind that another session will surely be lost due to bad light. Muthusamy’s defensive technique against spin has been the highlight so far”.
Meanwhile, Senuran was picked by South Africa as a replacement for Corbin Bosch in the playing XI in the Guwahati test. In the second session, South Africa reached the 400-run mark for the loss of seven wickets in the first innings to gain a dominating position. The Temba Bavuma & Co. lead the two-match series 1-0 by winning the first game by 30 runs, which was their first test victory in India after 15 years.
