South Africa defeated India by 76 runs in the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup 2026.
The Indian Cricket Team suffered their first defeat in the T20 World Cup 2026 in the Super 8 clash against South Africa. The IND vs SA game took place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 22. Proteas crushed the Men-in-Blue by a huge margin of 76 runs.
After South Africa opted to bat first, they dominated the Indian bowlers with their aggressive stroke play despite losing early wickets. They lost the top three batters for single digits, but David Miller (63), Dewald Brewis (45), and Tristan Stubbs (44*) ensured to propel the scoreboard to a decent total of 187/7.
Arshdeep Singh (2 wickets) and Jasprit Bumrah (3 wickets) helped to restrict the Proteas from crossing 200-plus total. However, Indian batters lost the plot during the chase, with Ishan Kishan (0), Abhishek Sharma (15), and Tilak Varma (1) losing their wickets for single digits.
Shivam Dube (42) was the top scorer for India as none of the batters managed to score a fifty. Eventually, the Suryakumar Yadav & Co. were bowled out for 111 runs, losing by a big margin. Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj rocked with their four and three wickets respectively.
Aiden Markram & Co. dominated India with both bat and ball, and despite India getting the chance to get their preferred choice of chase, they faced a humiliating defeat in the T20 World Cup 2026.
