South Africa won the second IND vs SA ODI by four wickets.

South Africa bounced back strongly in the IND vs SA ODI series against India with an inspired win in the second game in Raipur on Wednesday (3 December, 2025), defeating the hosts by four wickets to level the series 1-1.

India put up a commanding total of 358/5 in the first innings after being put to bat first by the Proteas. Virat Kohli was the star of the show as he second his second straight ton with a respectable 102, while Ruturaj Gaikwad hit his maiden ODI ton, scoring 105. Skipper KL Rahul scored an impressive 66 to help the Indian side put up a strong total.

However, things went from bad to worse for the Indian side in the second innings as the South Africa batsmen started showing their quality. Aiden Makram took the fight, scoring a brilliant 110 to help his side soar forward in the chase. Captain Temba Bavuma, who returned to the lineup, scored 46 and the likes of Matthew Breetzke (68) and Dewald Brevis (54) empowered South Africa’s chase.

Despite India’s attempts to seal a win, South Africa dug deep and won the match with only four balls remaining. It was an impressive late surge from Corbin Bosh (29*) which helped South Africa push through to win the match, chasing down the 358 total, making it the third time that they have chased down a 350+ total in their ODI history.

IND vs SA: I think once I settle in, I’ll start enjoying it even more – Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram was judged as the Player of the Match for his brilliant 110 knock that empowered South Africa to be able to chase down this major total. After the match, he stated:

Yes, exactly. You’ve got to get through that initial period. We saw in the first game what the middle order did and from my side I did feel a bit responsible that we just came up short. If you kick on into the 70s, the outcome could easily be different. Tonight, under lights, the wicket had a bit more pace and swing, so the plan was to get in, find some rhythm, and then push on from there.

I can’t remember the exact over, but later in the innings we (himself and Bavuma) chatted and felt we were both set. That’s normally when I try to play my shots. If one of us gets out, then you rebuild with the next batter. The partnership felt solid. I’m proud of the boys for getting us over the line. It was tricky at the end, high-pressure moments, but the guys stayed calm and got the job done.

It definitely helps (having a long batting line-up). When you’ve effectively got 8 batters and Kesh, who can also chip in, that gives you a lot of freedom. As a team we want to play a positive brand, take the game on and put bowlers under pressure. When you’ve got depth, you feel that freedom. The middle order has really put their hands up over the past year.

“Now it’s up to us at the top to set things up so they can entertain. It’s tough to pick (opening or middle order). Everyone says opening is great because the field is up and the ball comes onto the bat nicely. That’s true but when it’s swinging in and out, it can be a challenge. Still, I’m happy either way. It’s only been a few innings at the top again, so I think once I settle in, I’ll start enjoying it even more.”

IND vs SA: Performances like these do good for our confidence – Temba Bavuma

Temba Bavuma was a happy captain after seeing his return inspire the South Africa team to get a win over India in the 2nd ODI, as he reacted to the result by stating:

Happy to have crossed the line. Coming into this game we were all thinking how can we get better with the ball. There were partnerships at the top, better showing from us, unbelievable game, record chase and it shows how well we have to play against this Indian side.

“I tried to build a partnership with Aiden, try to take the game deep and it was all about the partnerships. The ploy to send Brevis early went in our favour. We can take a lot of confidence with this win. The guys who are here are the best, there is a high level of competition for positions, the batters know they have to be at their best. Performances like these do good for our confidence. I am not a doctor so I am not sure. It does not look good, but they will go through the medicals and if need be we have the guys to replace them.”

IND vs SA: Toss plays a huge role and I am kicking myself for losing the toss – KL Rahul

India captain KL Rahul believes that his side was 20-25 runs short, but that some sloppy fielding didn’t help his side either. While praising the innings of Kohli and Gaikwad, he was gutted to see his side be on the losing side and claimed:

Not really. Considering how much dew there is and how much difficult it is to bowl in the second innings, the umpires have been nice enough to change the ball. Toss plays a huge role and I am kicking myself for losing the toss. There are things we could have done better. 350 looks good but the chat in the dressing room was how can we get that extra 20-25 runs for the bowlers, we also gave away a few soft runs in the field.

“It was beautiful to watch Rutu and Virat bat. He goes on about doing his job, just to see the way Rutu take on the spinners, the tempo that he batted is what gave us that extra 20 runs, the lower order could have contributed more. Today is the first time that I have been slotted at 6 and walked in at 5, Virat and Rutu had set the tempo, so I walked in. I had got a fifty in the last game, was feeling confident, so it was better to walk in at number 5.”

IND vs SA: Tonight just shows that we can do incredible things when the game is set up perfectly – Corbin Bosch

Corbin Bosch, who helped South Africa seal the win, spoke about his mindset towards the end and explained:

“I just said to Kesh, let’s run hard. We still need less than a run-a-ball. I just told Kesh, let’s stay nice and calm, run nice and hard, and we’ll be able to pick off the runs. There’s always the belief in this team that we can chase anything. Tonight just shows that we can do incredible things when the game is set up perfectly.

The guys in the top of the order set up this game beautifully for us to finish it off at the end. (On the conditions) Bowling on it was a little bit tricky. Obviously, not my best bowling performance, but the dew definitely played a factor. The ball started coming on quite nicely. It was quite sticky when the outfield was still nice and dry, but as soon as the ball got a bit wet, it got a little bit tougher. Obviously, it made it a little bit easier for us to score the runs.

“I had full belief that if needed, Nandre would come in. I just told Kesh, let’s be nice and calm and take it one ball at a time, one run at a time, and we’ll get over the line. (On batting at eight) That’s my job. It’s so much easier batting at number 8 than opening, but I’ll take it. Whatever I can do to contribute for the team, I’ll happily do it.”
