India A will also face Rohit Sharma’s Indian side in an intra-squad match ahead of the BGT 2024-25.

India A and Australia A will play two four-day matches in Mackay and Melbourne ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Cricket Australia (CA) has also confirmed that both of these matches will be given First-Class (FC) status.

The series will serve as an excellent preparation for the Australian cricket team for the five-match test series against Rohit Sharma’s side. Australia lost the last two home series to India and will be looking to turn things around this time.

Some of Australia’s test regulars may decide to feature in these two FC matches instead of the Pakistan ODIs and T20Is which will be played around the same dates. From India’s perspective, some of their test squad members may appear in the series.

This will be the first time since 1992 that India will play a five-match test series in Australia. The series will see the first test start on Nov 22 in Perth. The second test will be a day/night affair in Adelaide from December 6. The third test will begin on December 14 in Brisbane.

The fourth test will be the Boxing Day test at the MCG, starting on December 26, and the final test will begin on January 3 in Sydney.

The second four-day game between India A and Australia A will be held at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground

The first game will take place from October 31 to November 3 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, and the second match will be hosted at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, which will also host the fourth Test match.

“Hosting those A matches at the upgraded Great Barrier Reef Arena and the MCG give these ‘A’ matches significant status and will provide great opportunities to players from both sides to put up their hand for selection,” Peter Roach, CA Head of Cricket Operations and Scheduling, said.

India’s senior team will be heading into the BGT 2024-25 after contesting test series against New Zealand and Bangladesh. Rohit’s team will face the India A squad in an intra-squad match following the completion of the ‘A’ series. The intra-squad encounter is set to take place at the WACA in Perth from November 15 to 17.
