Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently leading Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy 2024/25 season.

Maharashtra and Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named the skipper of the India A team for the upcoming tour of Australia.

India A will play two four-day matches having first-class status against Australia A in Mackay from October 31 and in Melbourne from November 7.

They will then take part in a three-day intra-squad game against Team India (Senior Men) in Perth from November 15 ahead of the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, which commences on November 22 also in Perth.

The BCCI has announced a 15-member India A squad for these three fixtures and it will be led by Gaikwad. The right-handed batsman is currently captaining Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy 2024/25 season, which he has started with scores of 86, 0 and 145.

The squad includes two openers other than Gaikwad – Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is the vice-captain, and Sai Sudharsan. With Rohit Sharma likely to miss the first test in Perth due to personal reasons, these are three contenders to feature in the first test.

Devdutt Padikkal, B Indrajith and Ricky Bhui are middle-order batters in the India A squad, while Abishek Porel and Ishan Kishan are the wicket-keeping options. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tanush Kotian and Manav Suthar are the allrounders. The pace attack includes Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed and Yash Dayal.
