India will play three-match ODI series against Australia.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday (October 4) announced the Indian Cricket Team’s squad for the ODI series against the Australian Cricket Team. The two teams will be locking horns with each other in the three-match series from 19 to 25 October.
The Indian squad for the ODI series against Australia saw the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Indian colours. Having retired from T20Is and tests, the duo will be making an international return after seven long months.
The main highlight of the squad was Shubman Gill being appointed as captain of the side, replacing Rohit Sharma in the role. The series now becomes even more important for him as he will have a point to prove now. He would be keen to make a strong comeback and help his team win the series.
Along with these two, Shreyas Iyer will be back too, having last played for India in ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He has been appointed as the vice-captain following his heroics as a leader in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the series following an injury he suffered in Asia Cup 2025. In his place, Nitish Kumar Reddy has been added to the side. Along with him, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel are the other all-rounders in the ODI team for the series against Australia, while Ravindra Jadeja has been dropped.
KL Rahul is the first-choice keeper in the team, while Dhruv Jurel takes the second keeper’s role in the team in the absence of injured Rishabh Pant. Also, Yashasvi Jaiswal makes it into the team as a third opener.
Kuldeep Yadav will be the only front-line spinner along with Axar and Sundar, while the fast bowling department will be led by Mohammed Siraj. The other pacers are Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna.
