Opener KL Rahul (100), who was appointed as test vice-captain just ahead of the match, hammered a century. Captain Shubman Gill (126), Rishabh Pant (81), Sai Sudharsan (81), and Washington Sundar (52) also made notable contributions, taking the scoreboard to a massive total.
Later, spinner Manav Sudhar picked a six-wicket haul to help India bowl out Afghanistan for 152 in the first innings. After enforcing a follow-on, India once again bowled out the visitors for a low total of 112 runs.
With a victory by an innings and 300 runs, India have scripted the record for their biggest test victory by margin of runs. Suthar, who picked a total of six wickets in his debut game, was adjudged Player of the Match.
