What is India’s biggest victory margin in Test cricket?

India have bagged victories by huge margins against several teams in Test cricket.

The Indian Cricket Team is one of the dominant sides in Test cricket. They have a huge supremacy at home and beating them on their home soil in this format is a big challenge for many teams. Moreover, bagging a series victory in India is almost an impossible task for many top test-playing nations and only a few teams have achieved this triumph over the last three decades.

India played their first-ever test against England in June 1932 at Lord’s. They lost the one-off test by 158 runs. They bagged their first-ever test victory in 1952 against England. Both sides locked horns in a five-match test series, out of which, the first three ended in a draw.

England won the fourth test but India made a comeback by winning the fifth game, ending the series in a 1-1 draw. Vijay Hazare became the first-ever Indian captain to lead the team to a victory in test cricket.

After this victory, India never looked back and went on to achieve massive success in the longest format. They are among the oldest test-playing nations in the world, having played more than 100 Tests against Australia, England, and the West Indies. Over the years, India have bagged many memorable test victories and a few of them entered the record books for their massive margins.

India have bagged many victories by huge margins in test cricket. However, their biggest victory by margin of runs came against West Indies in October 2018. In the opening test of a two-match series in Rajkot, India piled up a gigantic total of 649/9d in the first innings.

Opener Prithvi Shaw (134), who made his test debut in the clash, hammered a century. Captain Virat Kohli (139), Ravindra Jadeja (100), and Rishabh Pant (92) also made notable contributions, taking the scoreboard to a massive total.

Later, India bowled out West Indies for 181 runs and enforced a follow-on. In the second innings, they bundled out the Caribbean side for just 196 runs, bagging a victory by a huge margin of an innings and 272 runs. This is still the record for India’s biggest test victory by margin of runs.

While Ravichandran Ashwin bagged a four-wicket haul in the first innings, Kuldeep Yadav rocked with his fifer in the second innings. For West Indies, Kieran Powell and Roston Chase were the only two batters who could manage to score a fifty in the clash.
