List of all India captains at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup

Ayush Mhatre will captain India in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2026, which will be played in January-February in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The countdown for ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2026 has begun as the tournament is set to be played in Zimbabwe and Namibia in January. A total of 16 teams will clash for title and will see some of the exciting young guns making their presence felt at global stage.

The ICC tournament will commence on January 15 with the opening clash between India U19 and USA U19, and will conclude with the final on February 6. Ayush Mhatre has been appointed as the captain of the Indian Cricket Team with Vihaan Malhotra being the deputy.

The inaugural edition of ICC U19 Cricket World Cup took place in 1988, where Australia won the title by defeating Pakistan in the final. Australia are also the defending champions of the tournament as they won the previous edition in 2024 by crushing India in the final.

However, India are the most successful team in the tournament’s history, clinching five titles across 15 seasons. They won the tournament for the first time in 2000, and replicated their heroics in the 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022 editions.

Mohammed Kaif led India to their first title in the Under-19 World Cup

Mohammad Kaif was the first Indian captain to lead the team to the title in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2000, defeating Sri Lanka in the final. In 2008, batting great Virat Kohli drove the team to their second title, where they overpowered South Africa in the summit clash.

Unmukt Chand and Prithvi Shaw propelled the team to the trophies in the 2012 and 2018 editions respectively. India last won the title in the 2022 edition under Yash Dhull’s captaincy.

The above Indian captains did a wonderful job with their leadership to propel the team to the trophy. Many others could not lead the side to the title; however, their impeccable efforts were appreciated by the fans. On that note, below is the list of Indian captains in every edition of the U19 Cricket World Cup since 1988.
