Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan, affectionately known as Venkat, was a prominent figure in Indian cricket history. He held the honour of captaining Indian cricket team in not one but two World Cups. His leadership journey began at 1975 World Cup, where he led Indian side with determination and composure. He continued to lead them in 1979 World Cup. Venkat's contributions weren't limited to leadership alone. As an off-spinner, he was a crucial member of the famed spin quartet that kept batsmen worldwide on their toes for over a decade.

In 1975 World Cup, India played a total of three games but, unfortunately, failed to progress beyond the group stage. In 1979 World Cup, India's journey was equally challenging, as they were knocked out in the group stage.

In 1987, India once again picked Kapil Dev for captaincy. As defending champions, expectations ran high, but the tournament took a different course. India's campaign in the 1987 World Cup had its ups and downs. They ended with a loss to England in the semi-final stage.

The last time India clinched an ICC title was in 2013, when they won the ICC Champions Trophy under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Since then, there have been near misses and close calls, but the coveted World Cup trophy has remained difficult to achieve.
