India lost T20I series Ireland & England followed by ODIs against Three Lions on UK tour

Team India made some big decisions when they sacked Suryakumar Yadav from the T20I captaincy. He was replaced with Shreyas Iyer, but it didn’t start well. India suffered consecutive T20I series whitewashes against Ireland and England.

It was followed by a 1-2 ODI series defeat against England. Team India faced a lot of criticism after that tour, and the Indian coaching staff was also under fire. India won the recently concluded T20I series in Zimbabwe.

But the team was led by VVS Laxman as head coach. And now, one big announcement has been made. An Indian assistant coach has stepped down from the role to join franchise cricket.

Ryan ten Doeschate

On Tuesday, the Indian assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate stepped down from the role after India’s disastrous time on the UK tour. Reportedly, Ten Doeschate informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision after the UK tour.

As per reports on ESPN Cricinfo, the 46-year-old is all set to join the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027. Ten Doeschate joined India as an assistant coach under head coach Gautam Gambhir after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended after the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph.

He was a key figure in the Indian coaching setup led by Gambhir. Ten Doeschate, who was part of KKR as a player and in the coaching setup before joining Team India, will head to the same setup.

He will join Abhishek Nayar, who is the head coach of the three-time champions. This pair has served in the Indian coaching setup also. Ten Doeschate shares a sweet bond with KKR, where he was part of the top IPL titles as a player back in 2012 and 2014, respectively.

Notably, he was also part of the KKR coaching setup when they won the 2024 title under Shreyas Iyer. He joined the franchise in 2022 as a fielding coach, and his tenure ended in 2024, when he joined Team India. His stint with India was pretty good, as India won the T20 World Cup 2026 and also the Asia Cup held in 2025.

However, the Indian test team had a tough time in the last year or so, where they lost the BGT trophy in Australia and lost the home Test series against New Zealand and South Africa. Now it will be interesting to see who will be the next name to fill this role in the future.

India’s next international assignment is in Sri Lanka. They will play two test matches, starting on August 15. These games are part of the ongoing World Test Championship and are very important for Team India.

When did Ryan ten Doeschate join Team India as an assistant coach?

Ryan ten Doeschate served as an Indian assistant coach from 2024 to 2026.
