India and England players are giving their best with bat and ball in the ongoing first test.

The third day of the ongoing first test between England and India is underway at Headingley in Leeds. Both teams have been fighting tooth and nail, ensuring they give their best to outdo each other in the ongoing game.

England and India players started the match with a kind gesture as they wore the black armbands on the opening day of the first test to pay their tribute to the people who lost their lives in the Ahmedabad aeroplane crash.

An Air India flight carrying over 240 passengers crashed after takeoff, and all, except one, lost their lives. The flight was scheduled to travel from Ahmedabad to London and had some British passengers on board as well.

However, on day three, players of India and England were seen donning the black armbands yet again. But this time around, it wasn’t for the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash but for the former English cricketer David ‘Syd’ Lawrence, who passed away. Additionally, a moment of silence was observed.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official statement about the same, saying that the gesture was made to respect the former cricketer.

“Both teams are wearing black armbands to pay their respects to former England Cricketer, David ‘Syd’ Lawrence, who has sadly passed away. There was a moment’s applause before the start of play on Day 3,” the BCCI posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Coming to the match, India, who were asked to bat first, piled up a massive total of 471 runs on the board in the first innings. Skipper Shubman Gill (147), vice-captain Rishabh Pant (134), and Yashasvi Jaiswal (101) slammed centuries to put pressure on England.

In response, England is having a decent time in the middle. Ollie Pope (106) hit a magnificent century while Ben Duckett (62) also chipped in with a half-century, but the team lost five wickets under 300. The onus now lies on Harry Brook and others to take their team past India’s total.
