However, in recent years, Sri Lanka have struggled to consistently challenge India. Though India have lost their edge in the last year in Test cricket, the new Indian side carries the weight of a long-standing unbeaten streak against their neighbours.
To find India’s most recent Test defeat against Sri Lanka, however, one has to go back more than a decade.

India truly set an example of ‘Rise from the Ashes’ in world cricket after their heroic rise to dominance in the longest format of the game, from being absolute underdogs at one stage. Within that phase of domination, India’s last Test defeat against Sri Lanka came in the first Test of the 2015 series at the Galle International Stadium.
It was an another example of Galle’s poor conditions in the fourth innings and nightmare pitches for a chasing side: India failed to chase a target of 176 set by the host side after Sri Lanka’s dramatic rise in the second innings. India were bowled out for just 112, handing a 63-run victory to the Angelo Mathews-led Sri Lankan side.
This to date remains one of the most shocking defeats for India in what is often called the Golden Era of Test cricket in India. However, India bounced back to win the series, as the Virat Kohli-led Indian side turned the tables in the two following matches in Colombo and eventually won the series 2-1.
