India didn’t travel Pakistan to play the Asia Cup 2023.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla, has provided a huge update regarding Indian cricket team‘s participation in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
The Champions Trophy was last held in England in 2017. The Pakistan cricket team won the championship by hammering the Men in Blue in final by 180 runs at the Kennington Oval in London.
Ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi had earlier stated that they had sent a draft schedule for the upcoming global event, which is likely to take place in the months of February and March 2025, to the International Cricket Council (ICC). The marquee tournament will see a total of eight teams fighting for ultimate glory.
A report by ESPNcricnfo stated the PCB has finalized three venues—Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpandi to host the upcoming ICC tournament.
The report further added that all the Indian team matches will be played in Lahore. The idea behind proposing Lahore as the only venue is to avoid any security issues related to their travel. Notably, this will also allow Indian fans to cross the Wagah Border, which is the closest border to Lahore.
If the Government of India gives permission, we will send our team: BCCI vice-president
The last bilateral series between the two Asian Giants was played from December 2012 to January 2013 in India. Since then, the two neighbors have only faced each other in multi-national tournaments like the ICC tournaments, Asia Cups and Nidahas Trophy.
Last year, the PCB was forced to use hybrid model to host the Asia Cup. All the Indian cricket team matches were held in Sri Lanka, which also included Pakistan clash.
Recently, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla made a comment regarding India’s participation in the upcoming marquee event. Shukla added that they will send their team only if the Government of India gives them permission.
“In the case of the Champion Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India will tell us to do. We send our team only when the Government of India gives us permission. So we will go according to the decision of the Indian government,” Rajeev Shukla said to ANI.
