The Sri Lanka vs India Test series will begin on August 15.
India are preparing for their two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, with the first match scheduled to begin in Galle on August 15. The game will be followed by the second Test at the SSC in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
The Indian squad has already been affected by fitness concerns ahead of the tour. The selectors have had to monitor the availability of several players, while the team management continues preparations for the opening Test.
The latest injury update concerns an all-rounder who was initially expected to be part of India’s plans for the Sri Lanka series. His absence would further reduce team’s options heading into the two-Test assignment.
Washington Sundar unlikely to feature in Sri Lanka Tests
Washington Sundar was ruled out of the first SL vs IND Test, having suffered a hamstring injury during India’s white-ball tour of England. He was named run in the squad for second Test but his availability subject to his fitness and recovery.
However, as per report in TOI, Sundar’s chances of joining the Indian team for the second Test are very slim because of a lingering hamstring injury.
“At this moment, the chances of Washington going to Sri Lanka are very slim. The team management has been told to plan accordingly. The BCCI medical team is wary of pushing him into a Test match. There have been a few instances where players have broken down immediately after recovering from an injury,” a BCCI source told TOI.
Sundar’s unavailability for series means the visitors are left with fewer options in the department of spin-bowling all-rounders. Ravindra Jadeja makes a comeback into this squad after missing out on the one-off Test against Afghanistan. The other names in the squad are Saransh Jain, Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar.

Sundar’s availability for the second Test remains uncertain, with reports suggesting his chances of returning are slim.
