The World Champions of WODI cricket are back in action, but this time in a different format. India will be playing a T20I series against Sri Lanka starting on 21st December. A total of five matches will be played, with the first two being hosted in Visakhapatnam and the remaining three in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already announced the Indian women’s squad for the series, featuring two exciting new additions, G. Kamalini and Vaishnavi Sharma, both of whom are expected to make their T20I debut.
This series will also serve as an important preparation for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup next year as India look to build a strong and settled unit. The squad looks balanced with a mix of experience and fresh talent, and several players have the ability to win matches single-handedly on their day.
On that note, let’s take a look at the top five Indian players to watch out for in the five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Five Indian players to watch out for in the five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka
5. Vaishnavi Sharma
The nineteen-year-old left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma has received her first India call-up for the T20I series against Sri Lanka. She had an impressive 2025, becoming the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
She finished the tournament with 17 wickets in six innings at an economy of 3.35, including a five-wicket haul, playing a key role in India’s title win. She continued her good form in domestic cricket for Madhya Pradesh.
Although she went unsold at the WPL auction, her consistent performances earned her a direct selection to the national team. Her accuracy and calmness under pressure make her a valuable spin option for India. This series will be a perfect stage for her to showcase her potential at the highest level.
4. Shafali Verma

The World Cup final hero for the Indian women’s cricket team, Shafali Verma, will once again be seen opening the innings in the T20Is. Her explosive stroke play and fearless approach make her one of the most dangerous batters for any opposition.
She has already scored over 2,000 T20I runs at a strike rate of 131, and her overall T20 strike rate rises to an impressive 145. With her ability to take the game away in the powerplay itself, Shafali can set the tone for the entire match.
Her performance at the top will once again be crucial for India as they look to win the series, and fans will be eager to see her unleash her aggressive best.
3. Richa Ghosh

Richa Ghosh has long been the designated finisher of the Indian women’s cricket team. The 22-year-old, who played a massive role in India’s ODI World Cup triumph, was recently honoured with the position of DSP in the West Bengal Police.
She has been a nightmare for bowlers in the death overs, consistently turning games in India’s favour. In T20Is, she has amassed over 1,000 runs at an impressive strike rate of 142, showcasing her ability to accelerate under pressure.
Her explosive hitting in the final overs gives the top order the confidence to play with freedom. As India gear up for the series against Sri Lanka and begin their preparation for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Richa’s finishing prowess will once again be crucial to the team’s success.
2. Jemimah Rodrigues

Jemimah Rodrigues has been in sublime form and is coming off a historic World Cup victory where she played a major role in India’s campaign. Her unforgettable unbeaten 127 against Australia in the semi-final, guiding India to a record chase of 339, will be remembered for generations.
After the World Cup, she featured in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) but later returned to India to stand by her close friend Smriti Mandhana during her difficult phase. Now, Jemimah is set to return to action as India take on Sri Lanka in a five-match T20I series.
With her consistency, calm temperament, and ability to anchor or accelerate as required, her presence in the middle order will once again be crucial for India’s success.
1. Smriti Mandhana

Smriti Mandhana has been in the headlines lately, mostly due to developments in her personal life. The last few months have been an emotional roller-coaster, from lifting the World Cup to dealing with the personal matters of her life.
Yet, Smriti stands stronger than ever, determined to let her cricket do the talking once again. She is also on the verge of a major milestone, needing just a few runs to cross 4000 T20I runs.
One of the finest batters in world cricket across formats, her presence at the top brings calmness, class, and confidence to the Indian lineup. Her form will once again be vital as India look to start the series against Sri Lanka on a winning note.
