The India vs West Indies ODI series will begin on September 27.
India are set to begin their three-match ODI series against West Indies on September 27. The first ODI will be played in Thiruvananthapuram, with the second match in Guwahati on September 30 and the final game in New Chandigarh on October 3.
The series will see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to ODI cricket, while Shubman Gill will lead the Indian team. KL Rahul has been named vice-captain and is also expected to take the wicketkeeping role.
The three ODIs are part of India’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The series will also give the team a chance to look at different combinations, with several experienced players already part of the squad.
India have named a 15-member squad for the series, which means competition for places in the playing XI will be high. While some players will be looking to make their mark, here are 3 Indian players who could be benched for the entire IND vs WI ODI series.

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal could be one of the players who might spend the series on the bench. India have Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as opening options, while Virat Kohli is also part of the top-order group.
Jaiswal has scored 285 runs in six ODIs at an average of 71.25. However, his good numbers may not be enough to guarantee a place in the XI because Ruturaj Gaikwad is also available as another option.
If India continues with their experienced opening pair, Jaiswal may have to wait for his next ODI opportunity.
2. Naman Dhir
Naman Dhir has received his maiden call-up to India’s senior ODI squad after having good numbers in List A cricket. He has scored 351 runs and taken seven wickets in 14 matches.
However, India already have Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy as all-round options. Jadeja provides left-arm spin and batting depth, while Nitish offers a pace-bowling option.
With these players competing for similar roles, Dhir could find it tough to make his ODI debut in the series.
3. Dhruv Jurel
Dhruv Jurel is another player who could remain on the bench. KL Rahul is India’s vice-captain and is expected to be the first-choice wicketkeeper for the series.
Jurel has played Tests and T20Is for India but is yet to make his ODI debut. He has scored 747 runs in 17 List A matches.
Unless India decide to rotate their wicketkeeping option, Jurel may have to wait for his first ODI appearance.
