India lost their first game of the Super 8 Round against South Africa.
Indian Cricket Team made a wonderful start in T20 World Cup 2026 by winning all four matches in the group stage. With 8 points, they topped the Group A points table and qualified for the Super Eight Round.
However, they faced a big setback in their first game of Super 8 against South Africa, losing by a big margin of 76 runs. Moreover, West Indies also won their opening game against Zimbabwe. As a result, South Africa and West Indies moved to the top spot in the points table.
On Thursday, February 26, West Indies lost their second match of Super 8 against South Africa by nine wickets. The victory worked in India’s favour as they are no longer dependent on Net Run Rate (NRR) now to finish in the top two spots in the Group 1 points table. Also, by defeating Zimbabwe in their second game of the Super 8 Round, India have inched closer to the semi-finals.
How can India qualify for semi-final of T20 World Cup 2026
After West Indies’ defeat against South Africa and India’s victory against Zimbabwe, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side don’t need a higher NRR to leapfrog West Indies in the points table. In Group 2, South Africa take the top spot with four points, while West Indies and India are next with two points each. Both will play their last match against each other in the Super 8.
Now, the Suryakumar Yadav & Co. just need to defeat West Indies in their upcoming match to progress to the next round. Hence, the India vs West Indies match will be a do-or-die clash for both teams and the winner will book a berth in the semi-finals. By defeating the Caribbean team, the defending champions will replace them at the second spot with four points.
Meanwhile, the IND vs WI match will take place on March 1 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata and will be the last game of the Super 8 round. If Suryakumar Yadav & Co. reach the semis, they will face their opponent on March 5 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
