India Women Cricket Team bagged an impeccable victory against Australia Women Cricket Team in the semi-final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 on Thursday, October 30. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side crushed the defending champions by five wickets, chasing a mammoth 339-run target to etch their name in the record books.
Australia captain Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to bat first in the encounter. They didn’t have a great start as Healy got out cheaply for five runs. But, Phoebe Litchfield (119) and Ellyse Perry (77) set up a marvellous stand of 155 runs for the second wicket. After that, India Women made an impressive comeback, picking quick wickets but Ashleigh Gardner (63) slammed a brilliant half-century in the end, taking her team to 338 runs.
However, the job was half-done as India Women had to register the highest chase in WODIs if they wanted to book their berth in the final. At the start, they faced big blows by losing openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana within 10 overs. However, Jemimah Rodrigues (127*) and Harmanpreet Kaur (89) led a brilliant fightback, etching a stand of 167 runs. While Kaur lost her wicket just a few runs ahead of her century, Rodrigues went on to smack an unbeaten ton to take the team home by five wickets in 48.3 overs.
