India will kick-off their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign against Australia on 8th October, 2023 in Chennai.

Hosts India will be kicking off their World Cup campaign against Australia at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on 8th October. After a disappointing run in the World Test Championship Final, India will be looking to end their ICC titles drought in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup starting on 5th October. India are awaiting their third World Cup title. They won the previous two editions in 2011 in the Sub-continent and 1983 in England. India were knocked out of Semi finals in the previous two editions in 2015 and 2019. 9 different Cities will be hosting India in the big tournament.

India to play in 9 different venues

Each team will be playing 9 games in the round-robin format of the World Cup. The big business game involving India and Pakistan will be held on 15th  October at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. India will play England at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on 29th October. India will be travelling all around the country to play their league games as they will be playing their games in 9 different venues around the country. India’s clash against New Zealand will be held at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on 22nd October. Starting from Chennai, India’s last league game will end at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore against the Qualifier team from the World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe. 

10 Teams are taking part in the tournament, 8 teams have directly qualified for the tournament while the rest two teams will be decided from ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, West Indies, Netherlands, and Scotland are the five teams front-runners for the remaining two places in the big event in India. This will be the first time India hosts a World Cup event alone, previously they hosted the 1987 World Cup with Pakistan, the 1996 World Cup with Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and the 2011 World Cup with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. India won the tournament in 2011.
