Rishabh Pant returns, Yash Dayal earns maiden call-up as India announce squad for first Bangladesh test

India have named a 16-man squad for first test against Bangladesh.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced 16-man squad for the first of a two-match test series against Bangladesh. Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant makes his comeback, while left-arm seamer Yash Dayal has earned a maiden call-up the national team.
Notably, Pant made his comeback to the national test side after nearly 20 months. The southpaw last played a test match against Bangladesh in Mirpur in December 2022.
Currently, Pant is taking part in the Duleep Trophy 2024, where is representing India B side. The left-handed batter also played a quick-fire knock of 61 runs in the second innings against India A in Bengaluru.
On the other hand, left-arm seamer Yash Dayal received his maiden call-up to the national test side. The 26-year-old has played 24 First-Class matches and bagged 76 wickets till now.
In the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024, Dayal is playing for India B side. The left-arm pacer bagged four wickets (one in the first and three in the second innings) against India A in Bengaluru.
Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the side while Dhruv Jurel has been picked as the second wicket-keeping option other than Pant.
The batting line-up consists of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Sarfaraz Khan. In the spin bowling department, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav have been added by the selectors.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj will lead the pace bowling attack along with Akash Deep and Dayal. Meanwhile, veteran speedster Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from an ankle injury, hasn’t been picked for the first test against Bangladesh.
