Vaibhav Sooryavanshi included as India announce squad for Asian Games 2026

The three-time ICC T20 World Cup-winning Indian team will participate in the Asian Games 2026, which will be held from September 17 to October 3. Japan will host this event.
India enter the tournament as defending champions in both the men’s and women’s events. The men’s competition will feature 10 teams competing in the T20 format. The main event is scheduled to run from September 24 to October 3.
Shreyas Iyer has been handed the captaincy of the side. He replaces Suryakumar Yadav as T20I captain. The young phenomenon Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has found a place in India’s side for this tournament. This comes after his extraordinary IPL 2026 season with the bat, scoring 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.
He won many accolades, including the Orange Cap and Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Sooryavanshi was also the Player of the Tournament in the U19 World Cup 2026.
Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are named in the 15-member squad. Ravi Bishnoi and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who performed well in IPL 2026, have been selected in the squad.
Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana will be India’s pacers for the tournament. Harshit Rana did not feature in the IPL 2026 due to his injury.
