India have named a strong 15-man squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announce 15-man squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Rohit Sharma has been named the captain of the side while Hardik Pandya will be his deputy. Senior pro Virat Kohli has also retained his place in the side. While most shocking exclusion has been of Rinku Singh, who has been added to the travelling reserves.

Under Rohit’s leadership, the Men in Blue reached the semi-finals of the last edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. However, they were eliminated from the tournament after losing the semi-final against England.

After a stunning performance in the five-match test series against England with the bat, youngster Yashasvi Jasiwal has been included in the Indian side for the T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, as expected senior batter Virat Kohli has been included in the squad. Currently, in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Kohli has hammered 500 runs and is looking in great touch. After missing the Afghanistan T20I series due to an injury, world No. 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav has been included in the 15-man squad for the upcoming marquee tournament.

After returning to cricketing action after 14 months of his horrific car accident in December 2022, wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has been named in the side backing his performance in the ongoing IPL 2024. Also in a huge call, the selectors have left out the likes of Jitesh Sharma, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan and went with Sanju Samson as the backup wicket-keeper batter, who is having a consistent run in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Selectors have named Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel as four all-rounders in the side.

In the spin-bowling department, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, who is India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is, have found their place. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the Men in Blue’s pace attack along with Arshdeep Singh Mohammed Siraj. The BCCI also notified that Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan will be travelling as reserve players if required.
