India’s squad announcement delayed for Sri Lanka white-ball tour
After winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June captain player Rohit Sharma announced his T20I retirement. Since then, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are hunting for a new skipper for the Men in Blue in the shortest format.
Earlier, many media reports revealed that in the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, KL Rahul might lead the side in ODIs, if Rohit is not available. While all-rounder Hardik Pandya or star batter Suryakumar Yadav might take the leadership responsibility for the Men in Blue in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
According to the latest report in Danik Jagran, the selection meeting was postponed due to the dilemma over the T20I captaincy. Notably, there is a toss up between Hardik or Surya to become the new skipper for India in the shortest format.
It is understood that the BCCI wants a long-term captain, keeping the next ICC T20 World Cup in mind, which will be played in 2026. The tournament will be jointly-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
