India will be playing a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in August.

India’s white-ball tour of England ended on a disappointing note, with the team struggling to play consistent cricket in both T20I and ODI series. However, some of the players’ performances stood out, but the overall results have raised several questions ahead of next assignment.

With the England tour now completed, the India are slowly shifting its focus back to red-ball cricket. The upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka will be an important challenge, especially as it will be part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.

The selectors are expected to make a few changes after the one-off test against Afghanistan, with senior players likely to return.

According to TOI reports, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is expected to announce India’s squad for the Sri Lanka Test series later this week. It is suggested that informal discussions between the selectors and the team management reportedly took place during the white-ball tour of England, while a final meeting is expected in the coming days.

India are scheduled to leave for Sri Lanka around August 04, 2026, for the first Test, which starts on August 15 in Galle.

A few senior players were rested for the one-off Test against Afghanistan after a busy IPL season. However, they are now likely to return for the Sri Lanka series and strengthen India’s bowling attack.

Before the Test series begins, India are expected to play a four-day warm-up match in Sri Lanka. The practice game will help the players get used to the conditions and help team management finalise the playing XI.
