India and West Indies will lock horns in three-match ODI series.
India’s next assignment will be the eight-match home series against the West Indies, beginning on September 27, 2026. The series comes at an important stage of India’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup, with the team looking to settle for an established core and give other players valuable gametime across the two formats of limited-overs cricket.
The matches will include a three-match ODI series, which starts on the 27th September. The ODI series will be followed by a five-match series in the shortest format of the game, as it is scheduled to be played between October 6th and 17th.
The squad announcement is particularly significant because India’s selections have been affected by the ongoing 2026 Asian Games. Several players, like Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel and Ishan Kishan, will miss the ODI leg of the West Indies series.
The squad has finally been revealed by the BCCI, through an official release on the 16th of September. Shubman Gill has once again held onto his position as the skipper of the ODI team, with India legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returning to the Indian team for the three-match series in the 50-over format.

The selectors had to consider the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who will be absent from the West Indies ODIs because of his Asian Games commitments. Ruturaj Gaikwad surfaced as a replacement for the middle-order batter.
Ishan Kishan is also part of the Asian Games squad and will miss the ODI leg of the West Indies series. India have hence considered replacing him with Dhruv Jurel as their second-choice wicket-keeper in the side.
Hardik Pandya has not returned to action in senior men’s international cricket and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has been released from Asian Games squad, has been added as the all-rounder alongside Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja has replaced Axar Patel, the left-arm spin bowling all-rounder who will be part of the Indian contingent at the Asian Games.
However, the biggest highlight of the squad remains, J&K pacer Auqib Nabi and Punjab batting all-rounder Naman Dhir, who have been handed their debut call by the BCCI. Dhir can be picked both in the middle-order as well as an all-rounder lower down the order.
