India will begin their New Zealand tour with T20I series on October 22.
India are set for a long tour of New Zealand later this month. The team will play five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests during the overseas assignment. The tour will begin with the T20I series on October 22.
The selectors are therefore expected to name a strong ODI squad for the five-match series. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are also expected to be part of India’s ODI plans after playing all three matches against West Indies.
The BCCI is now preparing to select the squads for all three formats. The upcoming selection meeting will also be the first one after Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as chairman of the senior men’s selection committee ended on October 4.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the BCCI’s senior men’s selection committee will meet between October 5 and 11 to finalise the squads for the New Zealand tour.
Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha is expected to oversee the meeting. The BCCI has not announced Agarkar’s replacement yet. Until a new selector is appointed, the committee will function with four members.
The ODI series will be important for preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to begin on October 2 next year.
The visitors will then play two Tests in New Zealand. These matches will also be important for the team’s World Test Championship 2027 hopes.
The Test squad will also be closely watched. The two-match series could play a major role in the team’s hopes of staying in contention for the World Test Championship 2027.
Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar is in line to make his Test comeback after a strong performance in the Irani Cup. He took six wickets for the Rest of India in the second innings against Jammu and Kashmir. Akash Deep is also set to be picked for the away Test series.
