India and England will lock horns with each other in five T20Is from July 1.
On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the England Cricket Team. The two teams will be up against each other in the five-T20I series, beginning July 1.
The major talking point of the squad selection was the change in the T20I captaincy. Suryakumar Yadav, who captained India to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 win, was shockingly sacked owing to his poor run of form with the bat.
Not only this, but Suryakumar Yadav was also dropped from the side, and it was Shreyas Iyer, who replaced him in the squad both as a batter as well as captain. Thanks to his terrific record as a captain in IPL and domestic cricket, he was trusted in the role. Surprisingly, his last T20I came in 2023.
Also, Tilak Varma was handed the vice-captaincy of the team. Young gun Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also received his maiden call-up, thanks to his stellar performance in IPL 2026, where he slammed 776 runs and won the Orange Cap along with Most Valuable Player of the Season.
Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson retained their places as two wicketkeepers, while Abhishek Sharma, who is the number one-ranked T20I batter, is also back in the Indian colours, having played a great role for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2026.
Shivam Dube along with Nitish Kumar Reddy are the pace bowling all-rounders, while Hardik Pandya has been rested for T20Is. The spin bowling department features all-rounders Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, who is making his comeback, and Varun Chakravarthy. Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj will lead the pace department, which features Harshit Rana, who is making his comeback after injury, and Prince Yadav, who has received his maiden call-up.
