Shreyas Iyer has replaced Suryakumar Yadav as India’s new T20I captain.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian Cricket Team’s squad for the T20I series against Ireland on Saturday, June 6. The Men in Blue are scheduled to tour Ireland for two T20I matches.
The opening game will take place on June 26 at Civil Service Cricket Club. The second game will be played at the same venue on June 28. It will be followed by a white-ball tour of England in July.
India are currently locking horns with Afghanistan in a one-off test match. Later, both sides will clash in three ODI games, with the final encounter scheduled to be played on June 20.
Shreyas Iyer appointed as India’s T20I captain; Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gets maiden call-up
BCCI has appointed Shreyas Iyer as the new T20I captain of India ahead of the Ireland series. He has replaced Suryakumar Yadav as the skipper. Although Suryakumar led India to the T20 World Cup title in March, his form was the major reason behind his snub.
Yadav scored 242 runs in nine games in T20 World Cup with a lone half-century. He also flopped in Indian Premier League 2026 for Mumbai Indians (MI). Hence, selectors were looking forward to appointing a new captain in the shortest format ahead of the new cycle. Yadav has also been dropped from the squad.
Moreover, Tilak Varma has been named as the vice-captain of the T20I side. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has earned his maiden call-up after his impressive show in IPL 2026. Prince Yadav has also earned his maiden call-up in T20Is.
Harshit Rana, who missed the IPL 2026 due to a knee injury, has returned for the series. Kuldeep Yadav has been overlooked for the series, while Ravi Bishnoi has returned in the shortest format.
