India are scheduled to play two-match Test series in Sri Lanka.
The Indian Cricket Team is set to begin its preparations for the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka later this month. As part of the build-up, the squad was scheduled to play a warm-up fixture before the opening Test to help players acclimatise to local conditions.
Warm-up matches have traditionally played an important role in overseas Test tours, allowing teams to assess combinations, give returning players valuable game time and adapt to the conditions before the start of a series.
With India‘s departure for Sri Lanka approaching, a change has now been made to the itinerary for the preparatory fixture.
India’s warm-up fixture reduced to three days
As per the reports in Cricbuzz, India’s scheduled four-day warm-up match has been shortened by one day and will now be played from August 7 to August 9 instead of its original four-day duration.
India is expected to leave for Colombo on August 4. The revised schedule means that the Shubman Gill-led side will now have three days ahead of the opening Test of the series. There are some players returning from injury in India’s Test team. So, the new practice match will help management assess the players’ fitness.
The revised schedule still provides the India with an opportunity to spend valuable time in match conditions before the Test series. The practice fixture is expected to help the team management assess player fitness, finalise combinations and allow the batters and bowlers to adapt to Sri Lankan conditions ahead of the opening Test.
The first Test is scheduled to be played from August 15 to August 19, while the second Test will take place from August 23 to August 27. The shortened warm-up match will be India’s only competitive fixture before the Test series gets underway.

The practice fixture will help the players acclimatise to Sri Lankan conditions and allow the team management to assess combinations before the Test series.
