India played their first test match at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in 1932.

This is one of the few English venues where India have enjoyed some success. India played their first test at this venue back in 1932. They have played 19 matches at this venue so far. It took the Indian test team 11 games to register their first win at this venue.

1. 5 wickets, 1986

After a winless streak of ten matches, India finally had some success at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in June 1986. This win came under Kapil Dev’s captaincy, who produced exceptional performance individually. It was the first test of the series. England posted 294 in the first innings. Dilip Vengsarkar (126*) led India’s reply, and they made 341 runs, taking a 47-run lead.

Kapil Dev’s fiery spell of 4/52 paved the way for England’s batting collapse, and they only managed 180 runs in the second innings. India had a target of 134 runs, and they made 136/5 to register a historic win. Kapil’s unbeaten 10-ball 23 cameo sealed the deal for India. The Indian captain won Player of the Match award.

2. 95 runs, 2014

India had to wait for 28 years to win their second test at the Lord’s. And this time, MS Dhoni led the team to a win. India were asked to bat first and scored 295 runs, with Ajinkya Rahane (103) scoring a century. England made 319 runs and took a lead of 24 runs. Gary Ballance scored 110 runs, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 6/82.

In the second innings, Murali Vijay (95), Ravindra Jadeja (68 off 57), and Bhuvneshwar (52 off 71) scored half-centuries, and India made 342 runs, setting a target of 319 for England. Then Ishant Sharma bowled one of the best bowling spells by a visiting pacer at theh Lord’s and bagged his career best figures of 7/74, and bowled out England for 223 runs, winning by 95 runs. Ishant won Player of the Match award.

3. 151 runs, 2021

The quote “For 60 overs, they should feel hell out there” by the then Indian captain Virat Kohli at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in 2021 was one of the iconic moments in Indian cricket history. That test had many heated moments between Indian and English players, but eventually, India came out victorious in the game. India were trailing by 27 runs in the second innings.

India were asked to bat first by the hosts and scored 364/10, where KL Rahul top-scored with 129. India then conceded England a 27-run lead by letting them score 391/10 in the first innings. Later, India were under hot waters after being reduced to 209/8 with a lead of 182 runs. However, Mohammed Shami (56*) and Jasprit Bumrah (34*) added a famous unbeaten stand of 89 runs to take India’s total to 298/8 when they declared, giving India a target of 272 runs to chase in the final 60 overs of the game.

Indian bowlers came hard at the hosts and bowled them out for 120 runs in 57.5 overs to script an infamous win.
