The rescheduled white-ball series between Bangladesh and India remains uncertain amid recent tensions between two countries.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had a fallout earlier this year when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Mustafizur Rahman from their squad after they were instructed by the BCCI.

Mustafizur was bought by KKR for Rs 9.20 crore at the IPL auction in December 2025, and he was the only Bangladesh player bought in the auction. Later, the BCCI asked KKR to release Mustafizur, and secretary Devajit Saikia backed the decision, stating that it was amid the recent developments between the two countries.

Reacting to this news, the BCB boycotted the T20 World Cup, which was hosted by India. They decided that their national team would not travel to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup, citing security reasons. The board also requested the ICC to move Bangladesh’s matches out of India, but the request was refused.

The Bangladesh government later ordered an indefinite suspension of the broadcast and promotion of the IPL in Bangladesh. India were originally scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August 2025 for a six-match white-ball series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is. However, the tour was later postponed to September 2026.

The BCB has kept a window from August 19 to September 15 for a proposed white-ball series against Men in Blue. However, the final decision will be taken by the Government of India. As per the reports in Sports Tak, the BCCI has approached the government for permission and clarity over the Indian team’s proposed tour of Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board wants cricketing ties to return to normal, and the two boards remain in constant communication over the proposed series. There have been tensions between the two countries in the past few years, and Bangladesh wants to restore normality on the cricketing front.

The decision from the Indian government will determine the future of cricket between the two countries. India has already had a similar tussle with Pakistan, as the two teams no longer play bilateral series and only face each other in multinational tournaments. However, India would not want this to happen with any other neighbouring country.

What is the proposed window set by the BCB for the Bangladesh vs India series?

The BCB has proposed a window from August 19 to September 15, 2026, for the white-ball series.
