India tour of Bangladesh 2026 nears approval; Afghanistan T20Is likely to be postponed - Reports

India are expected to tour Bangladesh for a white-ball series in September.

India are currently touring England for a white-ball series, which will conclude on July 19 with the third and final ODI at The Lord’s. After the tour, they will tour Zimbabwe for a three-match T20I series later this month.

In August, India will travel to Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series, starting on August 15 with the first game in Galle. The 2nd Test, which will be played in Colombo, will conclude on August 27.

In September, Men in Blue will play a short T20I series against Afghanistan, with the first encounter on September 13 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. However, according to some reports, the series might be pushed back to accommodate a white-ball tour of Bangladesh after the Sri Lanka tour.

Notably, a white-ball series between India and Bangladesh was postponed last year due to political issues between both nations. Earlier this year, Bangladesh also refused to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026, citing security concerns.

According to a report by Times of India (TOI), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is keen to host India for a six-match whiteball series in September. Earlier this month, BCB also put the television and digital media rights up for sale. BCB stated that the bidding process would be completed by July 22.

The governing body took this decision after India resumed issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens last week, ending a nearly two-year suspension following political turmoil in Bangladesh in 2024.

Now, discussions are underway between the BCCI and BCB to conduct the ODI and T20I series. Moreover, the BCCI might postpone the start of the Afghanistan T20I series from September 13 to ensure sufficient time for the Bangladesh series following the Sri Lanka tour.

“We are hopeful about the tour. We haven’t got the green signal as yet from the , but they also have not said they are not coming. So we are hoping to get a positive response from the BCCI soon,” a top BCB official was quoted as saying by TOI.

After becoming the new BCB chief, Tamim Iqbal told TOI that he hopes the series will take place this year.

“There is a scheduled series against India later this year. I am very hopeful that India will come and play the series. This is one bilateral series that the people of Bangladesh really enjoy watching. Bangladesh did really well in the last series against India,” Tamim had said.
