India to tour Sri Lanka for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is in July-August 2024

Sri Lanka will host India for a white-ball tour following the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Indian cricket team will be travelling to Sri Lanka next year in July and August to play a three-match T20I and three-match ODI series. The Sri Lankan cricket team has announced their calendar for the upcoming year in 2024. They will be commencing their bilateral series battles against Zimbabwe in January and will play three-match T20I and three-match ODI series. Sri Lankan cricket is in crisis following the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 debacle.
The Sri Lankan cricket team will play 52 international matches apart from the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024 as they will have busy days ahead in the next year. Sri Lanka will resume their ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle with a tour to Bangladesh in February and March. Sri Lanka finished 9th in the World Cup 2023 points table and they failed to qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 set to be played in Pakistan in February and March.
Sri Lanka cricket CEO Ashley De Silva said that the 2024 calendar will provide the players with better opportunities in the game. De Silva said, “We are heading into a highly exciting year with a lot of international cricket to be played, which augurs well for us, as our team will be engaged in competitive cricket year around. The 2024 calendar is expected to give our players a lot of playing opportunities, fans entertainment, and our sponsors great exposure.”
ICC bans SLC, shifts Under-19 World Cup to South Africa
The International Cricket Council (ICC) banned Sri Lanka Cricket due to government interference after their exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Sri Lanka had a dismal performance in the mega event and a lot of political clout went on following the team’s finish in the 9th position. The ICC also shifted the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024 from Sri Lanka to South Africa after the board was banned from the governing body. Later on in the ICC board meeting, ICC permitted Sri Lanka to participate in bilateral cricket and ICC events.
India’s previous tour to Sri Lanka happened in 2021 where the second-string Indian team took part in the three-match T20I and three-match ODI series. Shikhar Dhawan led the young side in the tour and team India ended up winning the ODI series by 2-1 and lost the T20I series 1-2. Big names of Indian cricket were in England playing a five-match test series when India’s second-string squad took part in white-ball tour against Sri Lanka.
