India will play all their matches of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.

The return of the ICC Champions Trophy has already seen plenty of drama. While earlier, the discussions between PCB, BCCI, and ICC over the hybrid hosting model forced a delay in the announcement of the schedule, the tournament is now dealing with injuries to several star players.

India, one of the marquee team, will be without their biggest match-winner Jasprit Bumrah in this competition.

Bumrah sustained a back injury and was sent for scans during the Sydney test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The 31-year-old didn’t bowl in the second innings in Sydney, which ultimately resulted in India’s defeat.

Bumrah was initially named in India’s provisional squad alongside Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh in a three-man pace attack. The team management had hoped that he would recover in time for the tournament, but he couldn’t.

Another interesting selection decision was the exclusion of Mohammed Siraj. Despite being a valuable member of the India team across ODI and test formats in recent years, he was left out of the side, with Rohit citing his ineffectiveness with the old ball.

Nearly 10 days before the start of the tournament India have now made key changes to their squad.

India’s updated squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Harshit Rana has replaced Jasprit Bumrah, who couldn’t recover from his back injury in time. Rana recently made his ODI debut against England and has impressed in his first two games, picking up four wickets.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been dropped after playing just one ODI. He made his ODI debut against England in Nagpur, but was dismissed for just 15 runs.

The southpaw has been replaced by mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy. Varun made his ODI debut against England in Cuttack and has been impressive in T20Is since his return to the side last year. He will join Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel in the spin attack.

Mohammed Siraj, Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been named as non-travelling substitutes by the BCCI.
