India have faced England in eight tests at Edgbaston, Birmingham so far.

After conclusion of the first test between India Cricket Team and England Cricket Team, which the hosts won by five wickets, the action will now move to the second test, which will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The encounter will commence on Wednesday, July 2 and both teams are currently busy in preparation for the encounter.

The hosts lead the five-match test series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 1-0 after winning the opening encounter at Headingley, Leeds by five wickets. The Ben Stokes-led side chased down a huge target of 371 runs in the second innings during the high-scoring clash as Indian bowlers remained helpless against a dominant batting unit across both innings.

Following a dismal bowling show in the opening test, India are highly likely to make some changes in the bowling department for the Edgbaston test. On the other hand, England will be boosted by the return of pacer Jofra Archer in their squad for the second test.

Notably, India have a poor record against England at Edgbaston. They have never defeated England across the previous eight test matches at the venue. England have defeated India in seven matches at Edgbaston, while one ended in a draw. The last match between both the sides at this venue was played in 2022.

India lost their previous test encounter against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham

During India’s tour of England 2021, the fifth test of the five-match series was postponed and was later rescheduled to July 2022 and played at Edgbaston, Birmingham. As Rohit Sharma tested positive for Covid-19 prior to the game, Jasprit Bumrah was named as captain of the side.

England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to field first in the match. India lost their top four batsmen cheaply, however, centuries by Rishabh Pant (146) and Ravindra Jadeja (104) helped them post a big total of 416/10 in the first innings. For the hosts, James Anderson picked a five-wicket haul.

With help of a four-wicket haul by Mohammed Siraj and a three-wicket haul by Jasprit Bumrah, India bundled out England for 284 in the first innings, gaining a lead of 132 runs. However, England bowlers made a fabulous comeback in the second innings and bowled out the visitors for 245 runs, with captain Ben Stokes claiming a four-wicket haul.

India then set a challenging target of 378 runs for the hosts in the second innings. With unbeaten centuries from Joe Root (142) and Jonny Bairstow (114), England chased down the target by seven wickets to snatch an incredible victory in the match. By chasing 378 in the match, England also registered their highest successful run-chase in test cricket history.

Jonny Bairstow was adjudged Player of the Match for his twin-centuries in the match. With England’s victory in the game, the five-match series ended in a draw with both the sides winning two games each.
