India will play an away test series against Sri Lanka, which will be part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27.

Although India have garnered praise for their stellar performance in white-ball formats since last year, winning the T20I World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, they have struggled with their form in Test cricket.

In the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27, Shubman Gill & Co. commenced with an impressive tied series against England (2-2) last year. They followed it up with a whitewash against the West Indies in October at home.

However, they suffered a major setback against the defending champions, South Africa, in a home series in November, facing a clean sweep in a two-match Test series.

Last month, in their first test assignment of this year, India defeated Afghanistan in a one-off test match. Now, they will resume their duties in the longest format and aim to reach the final of the WTC 2025-27 cycle next year.

Notably, India are set to travel to Sri Lanka for a two-match test series next month. The SL vs IND 1st test will take place from August 15 to 19, while the second game will be played from August 23 to 27.

The venue for the opening game is Galle International Cricket Stadium, while the second test will be played at Sinhalese Sports Club.

In the WTC points table, India are placed in the fifth spot with four victories and an equal number of defeats across nine games, including one draw. They have a win percentage (PCT) of 48.15.

Sri Lanka follow them in the sixth position with one win and one defeat across three games, and one draw. They have a win percentage of 44.44.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are currently busy in a test series against the West Indies, which consists of two encounters.

Sri Lanka lost the first game in Antigua by an innings and 217 runs and aim for a comeback in the second game. Hence, their WTC rankings will be affected after the result of the clash.

On the other hand, India are busy in a T20I and ODI series against England in July, which comprises a total of eight games. After the tour, they will return home and prepare for the Sri Lanka tests.

Although India are quite a stronger team than their Asian rivals in the red-ball format, Sri Lanka are known for their dominance at home.

The campaign will be big opportunity for the Shubman Gill & Co. to make a comeback in the longest format and improve their ranking in WTC points table.
