Batting in test cricket becomes a challenging task for wicket-keepers, who need to perform the dual duties of scoring runs and keeping the wickets. Over the years, a few Indian wicket-keepers have produced memorable knocks in test cricket.

Scoring runs as a wicket-keeper is challenging enough in test cricket, but getting out just before a century can be more frustrating. If we look at records, three Indian wicket-keeper batters have lost their wickets in the 80s and 90s multiple times.

3. Farokh Engineer- 4

Former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer is one of the best wicket-keeper batsmen to ever play for India. He represented the national team from 1961 to 1975, playing a total of 47 tests. During his Test career, he got out between 80 and 99 runs on four occasions. Out of these, two innings were against England, while one each was against New Zealand and England.

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni slammed six centuries in his test career across 90 matches. However, he also missed out on his centuries on many occasions. He lost his wicket in the 90s in five innings and in the 80s on three instances. Across 144 innings from 2005 to 2014, he scored 4876 runs at an average of 38.09. He is still the wicket-keeper with the most runs for India.

Rishabh Pant has also lost his wicket on many instances just ahead of his century. He is the primary choice of wicket-keeper in the longest format currently. The left-handed batter has been dismissed in the 80s and 90s in eight innings in test cricket. Out of these, there were seven innings when he got out in the 90s. So far in 49 games, Pant has scored 3476 runs with eight centuries and 18 fifties.
