India Women register highest Women's ODI total in second innings; Fail to chase a mammoth target of 413 against Australia Women

Australia Women defeated India Women by 43 runs in the third ODI.

India Women scripted history even after losing the third game of the three-match series against Australia Women. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side now has the record of the highest ever team total in the second innings in Women’s ODI cricket, achieving the feat on Saturday, September 20, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Chasing a mammoth total of 413 runs in the clash, opener Smriti Mandhana gave a wonderful start, slamming a ton in just 50 balls. She scored 125 runs off 63 deliveries, setting the record for the second fastest century in Women’s ODI cricket during the encounter off 50 deliveries.

Harmanpreet Kaur (52) and Deepti Sharma (72) slammed half-centuries, while Sneh Rana added 35 runs. But, their efforts went in vain as India Women were eventually bowled out for 369 runs. They lost the match by 43 runs. However, they broke South Africa Women’s record for the highest team total in the second innings in ODIs.

Earlier, Australia Women won the toss and opted to bat first. With an impeccable 138-run knock by Beth Mooney, they posted a gigantic total of 412/10 in the first innings. Georgia Voll (81) and Ellyse Perry (68) hammered crucial half-centuries. Mooney was adjudged Player of the Match.

With the victory, Australia Women also snatched the three-match series 2-1. Earlier, Australia Women won the opening game by eight wickets, while India Women clinched a victory in the second ODI by 102 runs. Mandhana, who scored 300 runs in three games with two centuries and one fifty, grabbed Player of the Series award.
