Proteas Women to host Team India in April before T20 World Cup 2026.

South Africa Women will host Team India for a high-profile five-match T20I series in April. This series is crucial for the preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held in England.

The series will mark South Africa’s final T20I assignment before the global tournament, while it will be India’s penultimate T20I outing ahead of the marquee event. The series provides valuable match exposure for both sides to test their combinations.

The series will begin in Durban, which will host the first two T20Is on April 17 and April 19. The action will then move to Johannesburg for the third and fourth matches on April 22 and April 25. The final game will take place on April 27 in Benoni.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has underlined the importance of the series, particularly for the Proteas Women, who have been among the most consistent teams in recent ICC events. “Facing a team of India’s quality so close to a World Cup is exactly what the Proteas Women need at this stage of the preparation,” said Enoch Nkwe, CSA Director of National Teams and High Performance.

He added that the series would help the team test combinations, execute plans under pressure, and sharpen their overall readiness.

The India tour of South Africa will come after a packed international schedule. Following the WPL, India will tour Australia for a multi-format series in February-March. Then they will go to South Africa, and after the SA tour, India will play a three-match T20I series in England in May.

Meanwhile, South Africa are set to play a T20I and ODI series against Pakistan in February and March, followed by a tour of New Zealand in March-April.

The timing of the series is particularly significant as both South Africa and India have been placed in Group 1 of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, alongside Australia, Pakistan, and two qualifiers.

Recent World Cup history adds further intrigue. South Africa were runners-up in the last two T20 World Cups and were also finalists in the 2025 ODI World Cup. India’s best T20 World Cup performance came in 2020 when they finished runners-up, while they endured an early exit in the 2024 edition.

With World Cup momentum at stake, the five-match T20I series promises to be a crucial and closely watched chapter in women’s international cricket.
