India's tour of South Africa 2024
Former Indian all-rounder leaves out Ravi Ashwin from the playing XI for second test in Cape Town against South Africa

India will take on South Africa in the 2nd test match at Cape Town starting from 3rd January.
India team management faced a severe backlash over their choices of playing XI for the first test match against South Africa. Team India suffered a crushing defeat in Centurion and their hopes of winning a test series in South Africa slipped away from their hands. Team India are ready to take on South Africa once again in the second test match at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has suggested a few changes in Indian playing XI for the second test scheduled to begin on 3rd January. Irfan Pathan has echoed the sentiments of Indian fans who want to see Ravindra Jadeja playing in the second test match against South Africa. Pathan has also suggested a few changes in Indian pace bowling attack as well.
Mukesh, Jadeja in and Prasidh, Ashwin out
Talking to Star Sports about the possible changes in Indian playing XI, Irfan Pathan suggested a few changes and said, “If you’re Rohit Sharma and you want to go with the same bowling attack, that’s also fine. But if you’re thinking of making a change, Mukesh Kumar could come in for Prasidh Krishna. But if you feel Prasidh is confident in the nets, then he should be backed for the second Test.”
Irfan Pathan has also batted for Ravindra Jadeja as he can be a good option for India batting at number 7 position and has a great control on his bowling. Jadeja added, “Ravindra Jadeja, if fit, should come back to the team. Ashwin did bowl well from what was expected out of him on that pitch but we missed Jadeja’s control while batting at number 7 in Centurion.”
Ravi Ashwin had a dismal performance with the bat and scored only 8 runs in two innings. Ashwin had an economical spell but failed to provide more than one wicket to team India in the Centurion test. Prasidh Krishna was also taken on by South African opener Dean Elgar.
