Former Indian cricketer Vijay Merchant scored a century at the stadium in 1936. During India’s tour of England in 1936, India clashed with England in Manchester in second test of the three-match series.
In the first innings, India were bowled out for 203 runs. England then piled up a mammoth total of 571/8, courtesy of a hundred by Wally Hammond before declaring the innings. In the second innings, opener Vijay Merchant scored 114 runs to power India to 390/5. Mushtaq Ali (112) also scored a century in the encounter. The match ended in a draw.
4. Polly Umrigar – 118
Former India cricketer Polly Umrigar scored 118 runs in a test match in Manchester against England in 1959. It was the fourth game of the five-match series. With tons by Geoff Pullar and Mike Smith, England piled up 490/10 in the first innings. India were then bundled out for just 208 runs.
In the second innings, England declared their innings at 265/8, setting a gigantic 548-run target for India. Abbas Ali Baig (112) and Polly Umrigar (118) smacked centuries; however, India were bowled out for 376, losing the encounter by 171 runs.
3. Sachin Tendulkar – 119*

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has also scored a test century at Old Trafford Stadium. During the second test in 1990, England posted 519/10 in the first innings with centuries by Graham Gooch, Mike Atherton, and Robin Smith.
Later, India replied with 432 all out. In the second innings, England declared at 320/4d, setting a 408-run target for India. Tendulkar, who scored a half-century in the first innings, followed it up with a 119-run knock. India finished with 343/6, and Tendulkar helped the team to draw the match. He also won Player of the Match award.
2. Sandeep Patil – 129*
In 1982, Sandeep Patil slammed an unbeaten century in the Manchester test. England posted a gigantic total of 425/10 in the first innings with a century by Ian Botham. Dilip Doshi hunted a six-wicket haul for India.
In the second innings, Sandeep Patil scored an unbeaten 129 as India ended with 379/8 on the scoreboard. The encounter ended in a draw as day five was washed out due to rain. Patil won Player of the Match award for his century.
1. Mohammad Azharuddin – 179

During the Manchester test in 1990, Mohammad Azharuddin also slammed a century in the encounter. While Tendulkar slammed a century in the second innings, Azharrudin hammered a ton in the first innings.
England piled up 519/10 in the first innings with centuries by three batsmen. Later, Mohammad Azharuddin scored 179 runs as India posted 432 runs in the first innings. The match ended in a draw later.
